Governing Boards: Making a Difference
Every EMSB school has a Governing Board: a group focused on helping students' success. Though EMSB schools have long welcomed and encouraged parent involvement, Governing Boards were legislated by the Quebec government in 1998. Schools have other parent organizations, such as parent participation organizations, in addition to a Governing Board. Governing Boards offer advice to the school principal on a number of topics and are responsible for approving a number of proposals submitted to them by the principal. At the EMSB most of the work of Governing Boards focuses on three main areas: educational services, community services, and financial resources. Governing Boards adopt the school's operating budget and educational project, and approve the school's success plan. Governing Boards at the high school level include parents, school staff, community representatives and second cycle students. EMSB schools welcome and encourage the participation of parents and community members in our school and on Governing Board. Research shows how parental involvement has a positive effect on student achievement. Get involved in making a difference. Monthly meetings will be held in room 103. All parents and community members are welcome.
