Robotics 2008 "Port-of-Toss"
Goal:
- The robots must pick up and throw "bean bags" at coloured doors in order to flip the door to the teams colour.
Teams:
- Robots are grouped into two teams of two robots for each heat. Two robots will be the "yellow" team and they will play against 2 other robots that will be the "blue" team. The groupings change from heat to heat at random.
Playing pieces:
- Bean bags: There will be a number of bean bags placed throughout the floor. Each robot may start with 4 pre-loaded bean bags.
Playing field:
- The whole playing field is a large rectangle
- Robots begin in one of 4 predetermined robot starting areas.
Play:
- On deck:
- Team spotter, driver and robot must be in the on deck circle when the buzzer sounds to end the previous heat. Failure to do so results in a 10-point penalty being assessed to the offending school.
- All robots must be labeled with its school name and number which must be clearly visible to the crowd.
- Starting play:
- The drivers and spotters must remain seated in the designated area at the ends of the floor. They may not interfere in any way with any items on the field. This includes having any contact with the robots or the bean bags once the heat has started. They must take all necessary safety precautions.
- The robots are then brought to their robot starting areas. If robots arrive after a heat begins, they will not be permitted to play.
- Robots will be permitted to start with four preloaded bean bags.
