Pre-Work Program

John Grant offers the Pre-Work Program, a program within the Work-Oriented Training Pathway to all students 15 years of age as of September 30th of the current academic year. This gives the students the opportunity to explore different fields of work as well as getting them ready to enter the work force.

This 3-year work study program prepares students for the workforce by incorporating basic academics both in school and in the business community.

Successful candidates will receive a Ministry Certification for the Pre-Work Program.

Admission Criteria

Travel to and from work autonomously and to work independently at their job placement without assistance.

  • Geography, History and Citizenship Education (3 years)
  • Autonomy and Social Participation (3 years)
  • Preparation for the Job Market (3 years)

  • World of Work Orientation (3 years)

Job Orientation

Eligible graduating students are given the opportunity to continue job training through John Grant High School until the age of 21. Our goal is to help students get full-time jobs. Each step of the process is guided by teachers and supportive staff. They will learn: résumé writing, interview skills and job search techniques. The fields of work experience that are offered within the school include the following:

  • Early Childhood Care
  • Landscaping and Recycling
  • Horticulture
  • Woodworking
  • Food Preparation and Service
  • Cosmetology
  • Life Skills
