Benedict Labre House opens doors to homeless situation in Montreal to East-End Schools

On December 3 and 4th, math students from both John Paul I and Laurier Macdonald High School took a hard look on the homeless situation in Montreal and in and around Canada. Currently, 30,000 Canadians experience homelessness on any given night, and as many as 50,000 make up the ‘hidden’ homelessness.

The workshop was spearheaded by Spiritual Community Animator Vince Lacroce along with Executive Director of the Benedict Labre House Kat Gray. The workshop included facts as well as addressed the common stereotypes and misconceptions about homeless people.

The workshops were culminated by testimonials from men (who would like to remain nameless) who lived on the street and where able to get back on their feet and start over again. The most touching experience was when a John Paul student asked “Phil” on his advice about life. He said “I was recently reunited with my daughters who I haven’t seen for 15 years, nothing can replace your family, nothing.”
