LANGUAGE STREAMS

French Language Streams

LMAC Students are offered the choice of persuing two French language streams, within their General Studies program, Français, langue seconde - programme de base (English Core) or Français, langue seconde - programme enrichi (Bilingual Studies).

Students enrolled in the IB-MYP or Bilingual Studies stream may choose advanced language studies by enrolling in the Français langue d’enseignement course in their senior year of high school (Secondary V). This course is recognized by MELS and is taught in French public schools. Upon successful completion, students will recieve a certificate of French Language Arts.

The Benefits of Bilingualism

"The cognitive benefits of bilingualism are well-established. For example, it has been shown that, compared to their monolingual peers, bilingual children are better able to focus their attention on relevant information and ignore irrelevant distractions. Other research has shown that the effects of aging on the brain are diminished among bilingual adults. In addition to cognitive benefits, bilingualism can also confer economic advantages. In Canada, French/English bilingualism in particular carries important economic advantages for individuals who speak both official languages."
