Reform

The Quebec Education Program

The Quebec Education Program, which most now refer to as the QEP or the Renewal, is now implemented at all levels of the youth sector.  The philosophical thrust of the QEP emphasizes the importance of knowledge acquisition, critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, collaboration, cross-curricular learning, and democratic living.

People should not fear this program; it is intended to expose students to competencies that they can transfer to real-life contexts beyond the classroom.    It also stresses the importance of essential knowledge that must be acquired in order to gain understanding of various concepts and phenomena.  To this end, it is a program that emphasizes both the “what” and the “how.”  It offers curricula that are designed for the fast pace of the 21st Century when information is constantly in flux and the work force is facing new and exciting challenges that our young people must be prepared for.
