Canadian War Museum
The Canadian War Museum's collections are among the finest military holdings in the world, comprising some 500,000 military artifacts from rare vehicles and artillery to uniforms, medals and personal memoirs, including the Beaverbrook Collection of War Art with more than 13,000 works of art.
The Black Watch - Royal Highland Regiment of Canada
The Black Watch is the oldest highland regiment in Canada. Volunteers have served since the regiment's inception in Montreal on January 31st, 1862 as the 5th Battalion, Volunteer Militia Rifles of Canada. Since then, thousands of Canadian citizens have served in the Black Watch. In addition to Canadian border security, they have fought in the Boer War, WW1, WW2, Korean War; bolstered NATO operations in Europe and UN peacekeeping worldwide; and provided aid-to-the-civil-power, most recently during the Quebec and Eastern Ontario ice storm disaster.
The Regimental Museum, located in the Armoury on Bleury Street, was opened on 8 November 1949 by the then Colonel of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), Field Marshal Lord Wavell, as a memorial to all those who had served in the Black Watch of Canada and in particular to the Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment who had fallen in action.
