CULTURAL E-PAL EXCHANGE

Session Four

Special Needs Students at the Secondary 1 level will work on an E-Pal project with a school in Sweden so that the two different classes can engage in a cultural exchange through an informal interaction over the internet.

Objectives:

1. to exchange information concerning Rosemount High School life and the city of Montreal with high school students at Lagaholmskolan, Sweden.
2. to improve writing skills through writtten correspondence describing Rosemount High School and Montreal.
3. to increase familiarity with ICT (information and communication technologies) through use of word processing , internet and e mail.
4. to exchange information and experiences with other students to gain understanding of another culture and environment

Process:

Select students will correspond with Swedish students over a specified period of time to complete this activity.

Introduce the concept of E-Pals to students.

Letter of introduction to Lagaholmskolan, Sweden.

Contents will include:

name
students age
interests
hobbies
membership in sports or clubs
family life
interesting anecdotes to share so that students establish a personal relationship

Content will include:

courses taken
teachers
activities in school
sports
exams etc.
any personal opinions, likes and dislikes.

Letter will also include any responses to questions from Swedish students.

Letter will include:

description of weather in Montreal,
an explanation of why we celebrate Winter ,
a brief description of Rosemount High School Winter Carnival Activities,
winter sports in Montreal,
the famed Quebec City Winter Carnival.
Students may also include a particular winter activity that they enjoy or participate in

Letter will also include a response to any questions from E-Pal buddy.
