Special Events
Mural Project
The
students at St. Gabriel School were invited to participate in a mural
project under the guidance of professional artist, Leonel Jules, and
under the supervision of teacher, Joanne Fasone. Twenty students
and four parents worked together for 15 weeks on this project which was
funded through the Supporting Montreal Schools initiative.
Here are some pictures from the recent art
mural unveiling when we were joined by parents and some special guests.
We hope you enjoy this taste of our students' creativity and hard
work.
Second Step Demonstration
On May 4th, a group of students were chosen to demonstrate Second Step skills
in front of parents and guests. The grade 4/5 and 5/6 classes had been
working hard on making videos in the form of public service
announcements on an important social issue (such as peer pressure).
They chose their own issue, wrote the script, videotaped the
performance and then edited the final product, all while employing the
social skills that the program taught them. These videos were shown to
our guests along with a live skit from the 3/4 class demonstrating
similar skills. We are very proud of their hard work and the
enthusiasm they showed with this project.
Other Events...
Every
year, St. Gabriel Elementary holds holiday and special events'
concerts. The students prepare songs and dances to entertain
other
students, family members, and members of the community. Formal concerts
include a winter holiday concert, St. Patrick's Day/Spring concert, and
an end of year concert. Other smaller events include a Halloween
parade, a volunteer appreciation concert, a Remembrance Day service, a
Valentines dance, other student directed events, and more.
Along with concerts and other prepared events there
are many opportunities for the students of St. Gabriel Elementary to
experience events both inside and outside the school, such as visiting
artists, visitors from Tandem Montreal for important lessons on
bullying, productions and field trips. We are lucky to live in such a
vibrant and creative community such as Montreal!
