Faites Des Arts at Willingdon
January was a very creative month at Willingdon. We were busy with all the cycle 2 and 3’s dancing, painting, acting, and sculpting.
Here’s a list of the workshops in each class that participated.
Rm. 12 started the month off with the job of printmaking. A simple technique that gave great results, Louise taught the children how a series of prints are created. They worked on the themes from Charlotte’s Web and the works are hanging on the second floor for all to see.
Rm. 21 was next and Madame Meilleur and Louise embarked on another ambitious project, the largest project of the year, a Recycled art idea that we took upon ourselves. Small toys and recyclable plastics and old CD’s were used to create shadow boxes, and a sun curtain that will hang on the Third floor.
Rm. 9 opted for drama and were taught improvisations skills that will come in handy at school for presentations and projects. Each group presented a small scene at the end of our session.
Rm. 10 Ms. Tatiana asked for help creating masks. The students used plaster cast and created colourful masks that hang in the hallway on the second floor; each as individual as the artists.
Rm. 11 had the pleasure of meeting and working with Nicolas Doyon a marvelous creative drama teacher that showed the class some wonderful games to play that help develop their strengths in the classroom.
Rm. 29 also participated in a Theatre improve. class with Louise and it was fabulous to see their imaginations in creating a scene to the music of The Band’s Third Man Theme
Rm. 17 and Rm. 23 both asked to dance with a great lesson in Quebec Folk-dancing. A brief history of the music and its origins was given and then a fun tunnel dance that ends with a circle to show off in.A good time was had by boys and girls alike, and we discovered how much exercise it is to dance.
Rm. 20 Madame Heath had the idea to invite a dancer from the First Nations to talk about the culture of Eastern clans and show the class how to dance. Because of a scheduling conflict they received a workshop in Quebec Folk-dancing as well.
Rm. 27 Madame Maryse wanted to create a special project with her students and so we embarked in a big papier maché project that brings us a giant animal made up of many different animals, a challenge that the group rose to meet.
Rm. 31 Finally Ms. Petrucci was instrumental in creating a mosaic of plaster faces and hands with the grade 6 and the result is a gift to the school.
