Code of Conduct and Behaviour
- Arrive at school on time. (See Student Late Policy)
- Speak to everyone, all staff and students politely. Foul language and rudeness will not be tolerated.
- Respect all members of the school community and their property (Do not deface school property).
- When the bell rings, stop playing and line up quietly. Enter and leave the school quietly and in an orderly manner. Use only the front stairwells unless accompanied by a teacher.
- Ask teacher’s permission to go to the washroom and the water fountain or to leave the classroom for any reason.
- Walk and not run when inside the building.
- Adhere to the school’s dress code and maintain a neat and clean appearance. (See Dress Code Guidelines)
- Treat all textbooks and library books with care.
- Do not bring prohibited items to school. (includes all electronics such as Walkmans, Gameboys, iPods, MP3 music players, cell phones, portable video games, cameras). As well, chewing gum, candy,collection cards, and toys are not to be brought to school.
- Never throw harmful objects like snowballs, ice chunks or rocks.
- Never trip or push other people.
- Cyber-bullying will not be tolerated.
- Complete all homework by the assigned due date.
- This code of conduct applies throughout the day, including at lunch, recess and during the extended day program.
Discipline & Behaviour Policy
Should a student break a rule at school, the child will be given a written warning slip. After receiving 3 such ‘warnings’, step 1 will be applied. If a child receives 6 ‘warnings’ step 2 will be applied. Should a child receive 9 ‘warnings’, step 3 will be applied. For each additional set of 3 ‘warnings’ steps 4, 5, and 6 will be applied.
Step 1: The administration will place a phone call to the parent(s).
Step 2: The administration will inform the parent(s) in writing of the misdemeanour. This letter is to be signed and returned to school.
Step 3: The child will be suspended for a half day. The child will be readmitted only after the parent has met with the administration.
Step 4: The child will be suspended from school for a duration of 1 day. The child will be readmitted only after the parent has met with the administration.
Step 5: The child will be suspended from school for 2 days. The child will be readmitted only after the parent has met with the administration.
Step 6: The child will be suspended from school for 3 days. The child will be readmitted only after the parent has met with the administration.
Physical or Verbal Aggression:
- If a student harms another student intentionally, we will skip steps 1 and 2. Steps 3 and 4 will be applied immediately.
- In the case of extreme or repeat behaviour of this sort, step 5 will be applied immediately.
School Bus Safety Rules:
We urge you to discuss the following rules of conduct with your child for his/her safety as well as for the safety of other children.
* Be respectful towards the driver and fellow passengers.
* Students must follow the school bus safety rules listed below:
- Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before entering/exiting
- Enter in single file, do not push other students
- Find your assigned seat and remain seated at all times
- Keep the aisle clear of school bags and lunch boxes
- Do not shout or scream, talk quietly
- Do not drink / eat or leave litter on the bus
- Never put your head or arms out of the window
- Do not tamper with the emergency exit door / window
- Should you need to cross in front of the bus, keep a safe distance and watch for the driver’s signal. Do not run.
Student Conduct on the Bus:
Depending on the seriousness of the offence, a student may have transportation privileges suspended immediately or as follows:
2 reports: warnings by the school administration
3 reports: suspension of bus service for 3 days
4 reports: suspension of bus service for 1 week
5 reports: suspension of bus service for the entire school year
