Code of Conduct and Behaviour
- Arrive at school on time. (See Student Late Policy)
- Speak to everyone, all staff and students politely. Foul language and rudeness will not be tolerated.
- Respect all members of the school community and their property (Do not deface school property).
- Line up quietly, enter and leave the school quietly and in an orderly manner.
- Ask teacher’s permission to go to the washroom and the water fountain.
- Walk and not run when inside the building.
- Adhere to the school’s dress code and maintain a neat and clean appearance. (See Dress Code Guidelines)
- Treat all textbooks and library books with care.
- Do not bring prohibited items to school. (includes all electronics such as Walkmans, Gameboys, iPods, music players, cell phones, portable video games, cameras). As well, chewing gum, collection cards, and toys are not to be brought to school.
- Never throw harmful objects like snowballs, ice chunks or rocks.
- Never trip or push other people.
- Never display aggressive behaviour towards anyone, including someone who has been aggressive towards you. Cyber-bullying will not be tolerated.
- This code of conduct applies throughout the day, including at lunch, recess and during the extended day program.
Discipline & Behaviour Policy
Should a student break a rule at school or on the bus the following steps will be taken:
Step 1: We will speak to the child about the inappropriate behaviour and keep a written record.
Step 2: We will keep the child in at recess, at lunch or both.
Step 3: The parents will be notified by telephone or a note will be written in the student agenda book.
Step 4: The child will be asked to serve a lunch hour detention. Parents will be notified at least 24 hours prior to the child serving the detention.
Step 5: The child will be suspended from school for duration of 1-5 days. (The child will be readmitted only after the parent has met with the administration.)
Physical or Verbal Aggression:
- If a student harms another student intentionally, we will skip steps 1 and 2. Steps 3 and 4 will be applied immediately.
- In the case of extreme or repeat behaviour of this sort, step 5 will be applied immediately.
School Bus Safety Rules:
We urge you to discuss the following rules of conduct with your child for his/her safety as well as for the safety of other children.
- Be respectful towards the driver and fellow passengers
- Understand that the driver is the authority on the bus and responsible for the safety of all passengers.
- Students must follow the school bus safety rules listed below:
- Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before entering/exiting
- Enter in single file, do not push other students
- Find your assigned seat and remain seated at all times
- Keep the aisle clear of school bags and lunch boxes
- Do not shout or scream, talk quietly
- Do not drink / eat or leave litter on the bus
- Never put your head or arms out of the window
- Do not tamper with the emergency exit door / window
- Should you need to cross in front of the bus, keep a safe distance and watch for the driver’s signal, do not run.
Student Conduct on the Bus:
Depending on the seriousness of the offence, a student may have transportation privileges suspended immediately or as follows:
3 reports: warnings by the school administration
4 reports: suspension of bus service for 3 days
5 reports: suspension of bus service for 1 week
6 reports: suspension of bus service for the entire school year
