A part of our community
A school is not just a combination of students and teachers, but it is also an integral part of the community in which it finds itself. Saint Monica is very fortunate to be found in such a vibrant part of NDG, and is well served by a variety of social, cultural and recreational facilities at the heart of the neighbourhood. In fact, many of these facilities have just been recently built and show a strong dedication by the municipal, provincial and federals government to our community.
For St. Monica, this means that we can expand our offerings to our students, giving them access to opportunities unavailable at many other schools. Parents can also benefit from the close proximity of these services, which are all within walking distance.
Who are we?
St. Monica Elementary School is a community elementary school located in the NDG area of Montreal. With a vastly multicultural and multiethnic population, Saint-Monica’s students are a true representation of Canada’s diverse and rich society. Our children come from backgrounds, religions and cultures that span all corners of the world.
Bordering Benny Park, Saint-Monica is a beautiful school built in the 1950s with ample size to accommodate all its children in a comfortable and positive environment. Although considered an English language school, students are taught in both English and French, which in many cases renders our students trilingual.
Our Mission
St. Monica School’s mission is to provide bilingual instruction, to socialize and to provide qualifications to all our students. Instruction in both the English and the French languages focuses on the communication competencies of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The staff strives to enhance these competencies across the curriculum. Students are encouraged to develop a love of reading both for knowledge, as well as for pleasure.
Respect for oneself and for others is of paramount importance to everyone at St. Monica. A sense of belonging is developed in our students by fostering in them a respect for their environment and a connection to their community.
Students who experience academic difficulties benefit from individualized instruction. The instruction is offered to the students by their homeroom teachers as well as resource teachers. All students receive pedagogical services appropriate to their specific, individual needs.
