During music class we are learning about inspiring music and music methods. We are also using creative ways to learn and continue to make the music program one of growth, inclusion, and community.
Music education inspires our students to succeed in their lives. Children learn musical educational concepts from Kodaly, Dalcroze, and Orff, they sing on pitch, they learn to play many different instruments, and most of all, they learn by doing. Learning is an active process and it enables them to recognize patterns and symmetries. Early musical training has an effect on brain development to produce long-lasting changes in motor abilities and brain structure. Music education facilitates student academic achievement by recalling and retaining verbal information, improvements in math and that advantage that music provides increases over time. It also boosts reading, and French and English language arts skills. Music fosters a feeling of community and this supports better study habits and self-esteem. Ultimately, music education develops the creative capacities for lifelong success.
Many amazing field trips happen within our music program. Our students get multiple opportunities to watch professional concerts such as the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Students also have the chance to perform outside of school and inspire others with the power of song. We truly believe that “Music is Love, Music is Power & Music is Hope!”
