Philosophy
Honoré Mercier is committed to guiding each of its students as they grow and develop as complete human beings. The school works to help them build upon their mental, intellectual, physical, spiritual and social capabilities, and to aid them in realizing their fullest potential as lifelong learners.
Distinctive Programs
From Kindergarten through to the end of Cycle III, pupils receive approximately half of their instruction in French, with alternating days of French and English instruction. Mathematics, Music and Sciences Human classes are taught in French, while English Language Arts, Physical Education and Health, Science and Technology, Moral and Religious Education and Art are taught in English.
Meanwhile, the Integrated Science Curriculum taught in Grade 6 combines Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Earth and Space Science. Students are introduced to science concepts through a series of telecasts via satellite, and explore the concepts through teacher-conducted experiments, hands on activities and discussions that extend the learning introduced in the telecast.
In addition, Kindergarten pupils receive 170 minutes of Music, Dance and Physical Education per week, taught by a specialist. At the end of the year, a Kinderfest is organized at which time parents have the opportunity to see and experience for themselves the concepts their children have learned.
