Tier 3 - Acceleration (Modification)

Tier 3 services are needed by very few students, and refer to advanced opportunities that respond to the unique needs of individual students who have demonstrated outstanding ability, motivation, and passion to learn. Modifications, in the form of Derogation and or Acceleration, are rare and are offered to learners who fall in the categories of highly, exceptionally, and profoundly gifted (IQ 135+) as identified through psychological assessments, do not present any disabilities, and who typically reach reading and speech milestones far earlier than their age peers. 

Acceleration for these children is the most effective strategy, but the decision for Acceleration must be taken carefully while considering the holistic child and their environment.
