Teaching & Learning Areas

John Grant High School

Classrooms

Classrooms

All of our classrooms feature large windows which provide ample natural light and views of our beautiful surrounding areas. Classrooms are spacious and furnished with flexible seating solutions and are wired for smartboards and other technology tools. Student work and learning tools are on display. Within the classroom, our students have access to their own technological learning tools (iPad, Chromebook or laptop) within the classroom - no need to travel to a separate technology lab. John Grant learning spaces have all the key components necessary to maximize learning and engagement.

Gymnasium

Gymnasium

Our beautiful second-floor double gym offers students a great open space for their Phys-Ed classes, as well as opportunities for extra-curricular and intramural sports year-round.  A partition wall allows for the simultaneous organization of different activities or tournaments, and a built-in bleacher system provides for an opportunity for students to cheer on their peers during inter-mural competitions.

Our refinished parquet flooring provides for a safe and exciting opportunities for many group and solo sports, including:

  • Basketball
  • Floor hockey
  • Volleyball
  • Badminton
  • Indoor soccer
  • Yoga
  • Gymnastics
  • Dance

In addition to the gymnasium, John Grant has a large outdoor space with multiple soccer fields, a baseball diamond, tennis courts and  green space for physical education activities. This area is used year-round for activities.

In partnership with the city of Côte Saint-Luc , classes have access to the Aquatic and Community Centre (ACC) which  is home to two swimming pools, a gym, and dance studios.

Music Room

Music Room

Our music space is a welcoming environment and the ideal area for students to explore their passion for music. Students have the opportunity to try a variety of instruments and learn about music appreciation, theory and performance. Its multi-level layout and sound panels allow for students to work in small groups or as a collaborative unit to practice and play with improved acoustics. The adjoining rehearsal space allows students to practice alone or in pairs or to retreat to a more quiet space while still participating in class activities.

Resource Room

John Grant has a dedicated resource room where students can come to work in a quiet environment with support. Tutors and a resource teacher will be available to help students with literacy and numeracy, classwork or to work on social skills. The room will also have specialized educational materials for staff and students to help facilitate learning.

Library

Our school library boasts a collection of thousands of books - from reference materials to novels, graphic novels, leveled readers and popular series for adolescents and young adults. Our students can take advantage of the flexible seating, and reading nook to relax with a favourite book, or can work independently or collaboratively at the computer research and group collaboration stations set up throughout the space.

Each month, our school librarian curates a collection of books complementary to our school theme. Some of these books remain on display for library visits, some can be borrowed locally, others are available online and still others are selected by teachers and our librarian to be read in class.

There are always new books to discover at the John Grant Library!
