Inspiring minds, building futures

Royal Vale Governing Board

The Governing Board is a body established according to the Education Act. It is composed of the principals, parents, and teachers, representatives of non-teaching professionals and support staff, as well as students and community representatives. All committee members work in partnership to ensure that every student receives the best possible learning opportunity.

Governing Board Members

The term of office for parent representatives is two years, with half of the parent seats up for election each year. The term for non-parent representatives is one year. Parent representatives are elected at the general assembly of parents held annually in September. One parent representative is then also elected to the regional parents’ committee at the school board.

Monthly Meetings

While the Education Act requires a minimum of five meetings throughout the school year, the Royal Vale School Governing Board schedules a meeting each month of the school year with few exceptions. Meetings usually take place the third Monday or Tuesday of the month, at school, beginning at 7 p.m. Special meetings may be called if required.

Governing Board meetings are open to the school community; however observers do not take part in meetings, but are given an opportunity to ask questions during the question period. Items raised during question period can be taken under advisement with a response provided at a future meeting.
