French Programs at Royal Vale

French @ Elementary Level

At the high school level, we offer two main French programs: Français, programme de base and Français, programmme enrichi. To further support student learning, these programs are organized into two distinct streams: Flex and Immersion. This structure allows us to clearly define the courses available within each stream for every grade level, ensuring that students receive instruction tailored to their language proficiency and learning goals.

French Immersion Program

Students from Kindergarten through to Grade 6 follow a French Immersion Program. Learning a second language at an early developmental age strengthens a student's overall academic skills as he or she can make strong connections between the languages they are speaking on a daily basis. (Some of these classes may be taught in English in order to meet the requirements set by the Ministry of Education)

Students begin their first cycle speaking and learning only French in the classroom. In cycles 2 and 3 the percentage of French decreases.

Français, programme enrichi

The enriched program is aimed to meet the level of Français, langue d’enseignement program. Students who have followed the immersion or bilingual program in elementary school as well as those who already have some fluency in French can register for this program.

The student enrolled in this program will attain a degree of proficiency in French that reaches bilingualism. The goal of the program is to offer a deep understanding of French language, French culture and the mastery of the written components. To achieve this objective, students will experience reading and studying many literary works coming from la Francophonie (Québec, France, ...) as it is done in Français, langue d'enseignement.

This enriched program prepares students to continue their studies in French or to practice their profession in a Francophone environment.

French Immersion Program

At the high school level, Royal Vale continues to support students in deepening their French language proficiency through an enriched French Immersion Program. Building on the foundation established in earlier grades, students engage in academic subjects taught in French while continuing to strengthen their bilingual communication skills. As students progress through the cycles, the balance between French and English instruction shifts to meet Ministry of Education requirements, while still maintaining a strong emphasis on French fluency, cultural understanding, and cross-language connections.Français, programme de base

The French as core program in secondary schools aims for a functional knowledge of the French language. The ability to interact in French, both orally and in writing with different people, friends, peers and businesses.

The core program is not limited to the immediate needs of the student but aims to take it further by preparing them for professional life in a Francophone environment.
