Secondary School Diploma (DES) Requirements
To receive a Secondary School Diploma (DES), a student must meet the following requirements:
- Accumulate 54 credits in Secondary IV and V
- At least 20 credits must be at the Secondary V level
Compulsory Credits
- Secondary V Language of Instruction (English) – 6 credits
- Secondary V Second Language (French) – 4 credits
- Secondary IV Mathematics – 4 credits
- Secondary IV Science & Technology – 4 credits
- Secondary IV History and Citizenship – 4 credits
- Secondary IV Arts – 2 credits
- Secondary V Culture & Citizenship in Québec – 2 credits
or Secondary V Physical Education

Many CEGEP programs have specific entrance requirements, such as Math 506, Chemistry, or Physics. Students are encouraged to consult individual CEGEP websites to ensure they meet the prerequisites for their program of interest.
