Shadd Health & Business Centre is a public vocational training centre and part of the English Montreal School Board (EMSB).
Shadd does not directly provide financial aid. However, students enrolled in full-time vocational programs may be eligible for government loans and bursaries through AFE (Aide financière aux études).
Shadd’s programs do not follow a traditional semester system. Each program is continuous and competency-based, with different start and end dates throughout the year.
Shadd closes every year for the month of July. Depending on program requirements and stage (internship) schedules, some students may finish earlier or return later.
Yes. Shadd follows the EMSB calendar. For the 2025–2026 school year, Spring Break is March 2nd to March 6th.
Yes. Program duration includes both classroom instruction and the mandatory stage component.
Yes. Stage coordinators organize and assign students to appropriate facilities or workplaces related to their program.
Stage hours vary by program. All stages are unpaid and mandatory for program completion. See the Stage page for details.
Students who fail a competency (subject) are normally allowed a second attempt. Additional opportunities may be granted depending on the situation and teacher's discretion.
Yes. Students must retake any missed or incomplete competencies. You do not have to repeat the entire program—only the required parts. Academic staff will help create a plan to catch up or re-enroll.

Shadd operates on set class periods, which are outlined in the Daily Timetable. However, students must follow their individual schedules, which may vary depending on the program and stage requirements.

No. All programs are full-time. Full-time students may be eligible for government loans and bursaries.

No. All required books and materials are included in tuition fees.
Registration fees must be paid in full at the time of registration in order to reserve your place in the program. Payments can be made by debit, Visa, or Mastercard.
In some cases, yes. Switching between day and evening groups is possible, but it may affect the time required to complete your program.
Depending on the circumstances, students may be able to pause and resume their studies. Contact Academic Advising if you experience a scheduling emergency.
