An apple – and 60 minutes – a day
The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) now counts 15 elementary schools which have opted to participate in a Quebec government health initiative called À l'école, on bouge! The objective it is to transform school culture toward an active one, specifically by ensuring students are provided with the opportunity to accumulate at least 60 minutes of physical activity during each school day.
“STEAM” stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. It represents a multi-disciplinary initiative that promotes creativity and high levels of student engagement, as they perform a series of group projects that not only involve five school subject domains, but also makes them more relevant, creative, discovery-based and interesting for students.
