Former Jean-Talon Train Station transformed into a monumental canvas for contemporary art
This November, Choice Properties will transform Montreal's former Jean-Talon Train Station into a monumental canvas for contemporary art. From November 5 to 14, 2026, the façade of the landmark will come alive through a spectacular, large-scale architectural projection featuring original artwork by local artists Thaïla Khampo and Louis Robert.
Located at 395 Jean-Talon Ouest, at the corner of Jean-Talon and Hutchison streets, the free outdoor experience draws inspiration from the architecture and cultural landscape of Parc-Extension, home to Sinclair Laird Elementary School. John F. Kennedy High School in Villeray is also close by. Both schools will be discussing this project with their students and encouraging them to take in the experience.
Developed in collaboration with MASSIVart and Mirari, the installation will feature a continuous seven-minute animated artwork mapped across the station’s façade. Through captivating visuals and movement, the historic building owned by Choice Properties will be presented in an entirely new way.
Where Montreal's Past Meets Its Present
A gateway for travellers arriving in and departing from Montreal from the 1930s to the 1980s, the former Jean-Talon Train Station will become a canvas for a new kind of journey this November.
Khampo and Robert’s artwork layers past and present, drawing on the station’s history as a place of passage and the vibrant community surrounding it today. The result is a contemporary artistic interpretation of a landmark that has stood at the heart of Parc-Extension for generations.
"When Choice Properties invited us to reimagine this historic landmark through art, we wanted to celebrate the many cultures and stories that have shaped the Parc-Extension neighbourhood as it exists today. We drew inspiration from that richness, and I am proud to bring this piece to such a meaningful public space. ."— Thaïla Khampo, Artist
Bringing Art and Community Together
The installation is part of Choice Properties’ placemaking program, which aims to create spaces that bring people together, strengthen local communities and celebrate the distinctive character of the places where Choice Properties operates.
"The former Jean-Talon Train Station has been a place where people and journeys have crossed paths since the 1930s. Together with Thaïla, Louis, Mirari and MASSIVart, we’re bringing new life to this landmark through art and creating another reason for people to gather. We hope the experience brings neighbours and visitors together, sparks conversation and creates a shared moment in the heart of Parc-Extension.”
