EMSB Condemns Act of Terrorism

Montreal - Friday, January 20, 2017

We extended our deepest sympathies to the families affected by this terrorist act,” said EMSB Chairman Angela Mancini.

Ms. Mancini noted that the EMSB consistently preaches tolerance in its schools. On the eve of Black History Month, the EMSB has a special program planned to talk to students about how Jackie Robinson broke the colour barrier in professional baseball. “Given what occurred in Quebec City I am sure our Black History Month programming will take on an entirely different context,” she said.

Ms. Mancini said that schools will be provided with guidelines on how to talk to students about what happened. Some schools already planning programming of their own. “We are an educational institution,” said Ms. Mancini. “This is tragically a real life act of terrorism that happened in our own backyard. Our pedagogues will determine the best way to bring this up in their classes.
